🐴 Stop #15..Chincoteague Bay, VA
If you are reading this we are on our way to our next stop. This is stop 15 and we are 5 stops from home. This trip has been a lot different than last year’s trip. I didn’t care to talk to anyone on this trip, unless spoken to and I really didn’t care to find out if this country was really divided as it felt. This time, I just focused on my well being and my dogs. There is a reason why I have so many, and why I would do anything for them. They are all a lot more fulfilling than people a lot of the time. These past few months have taught me so much about people, friends, and who we value who may not see the value in us. We can’t convince people we have value, and so… the friendship list gets smaller and smaller. I digress..
Well, we finally made it to Chincoteague after Accident. This stop was supposed to be a 2 night stop, but we were taken down to one due to the weather that headed up to us. It really didn’t matter if we did nothing once we got here, our view was amazing. We had an awesome waterfront spot without anyone around us. There were dolphins swimming around everywhere, it was clean (something you struggle to find on Texas beaches) and it was a lot cooler temperature than beaches in Texas. We stayed at this spot called Chincoteague Bay RV Resort. Right away it was way nicer than any place we have been so far. You can typically judge this by the laundry room. They had tap to pay. Lower tier RV parks that have laundry rooms usually will have coin operated, but no change machine. If you step up a level, you might have a laundry room that is coin operated with maybe someone on site that can give you change, and then there are the places with change machines and maybe a nice seating area. Tap to pay is like… striking gold. So I busted out my blankets etc so they could get a nice washing. We grilled some steaks and potatoes. No complaints. WAIT except the mosquitos. At one point things changed and they were alll over. So that sucked. Literally hahahaha. This was the one similarity Texas beaches shared with this stop.
I had never heard of Chincoteague Bay prior to booking this. I almost hesitate to say anything about it because it is absolutely beautiful. It is fresh, it feels untapped, you could feel far away from the world, but also still have a cute small town to access for everything you would need. They also have ponies. That’s right. Wild ponies. When I heard this I became a bit concerned because of our news lately that they had been rounding up mustangs blah blah. I just didn’t want to hear or see anything about this. These ponies are protected and not under the federal umbrella. These ponies (yes ponies not horses) are loved and cherished in this community. There are stories of them from 100s of years ago maybe being there due to a Spanish shipwreck. Now they live on an island called Assateague (funny name) and they are taken care of by the volunteer fire dept. You can read all about them HERE. There are saltwater cowboys, there is a round up yearly where they bring the horses through the water to the main area. It is a whole thing. The ponies are very diverse, so they don’t all look alike. You can take tours to see them, but since we had to be checked out by 11 am to go to our next stop, PLUS we had our dogs, we hoped maybe we could drive through the refuge to maybe see one. BUT that idea quickly fell apart. Were we SOL? NOOOOOOOO I must see ponies!
Paul storms in all dramatic like telling me we have a major problem. Immediately I am like, oh no, BHV. What has happened and who would tell him first??? I’m not kidding. That was all that was going through my head. Well, it turns out that we couldn’t drive to see the horses. No dogs allowed, not even in your vehicle. I guess he had googled a bit and found a company that did private tours. He texted the guy, he said it is $350 and he could take us at 9:30 am. The marina was literally right next door. I asked if we could bring our dog, he said yes, so we went! No one loved being on the boat more than Lottie. I was really shocked at how brave she was. SO yes, I am sure most people won’t let you bring your dog, BUT private tours are more likely to bend the rules. I had already asked when checking in if our spot was available for another night, so I knew no one was checking in after us. I called them and asked them if we could leave a bit later, they said ok, and that was that. I am glad we did this. We saw the ponies, more dolphins, and bald eagles. It was epic and once in a lifetime as this place is not easy to get to. The horses were amazing, wild, and did not even respond to our presence. We were very close. I am pretty sure like 90 percent of these ponies are preggo. Probably not much to do on an island but eat and make babies. This was 100 percent worth the money AND we could enjoy it without worrying about a yappy Pomeranian that would be barking her head off in the RV.
🎥You know? There IS a movie called Misty that was filmed in this area and I did not watch it. At that moment last night, I really didn’t want to think about a bunch of wild ponies that I would not actually get to see for myself. So I went the complete other way and watched this Tyler Perry movie called….Divorce in the Black. Now I am really revealing something now in that I love Tyler Perry movies. More specifically I love Madea movies, but I will watch any of his movies. I have said it, it is out there, and this movie is crazy so I recommend it.
👗Lottie and Lanna Wore What? Lottie went from warm weather outfits, back to tank tops at this spot. I am pretty sure this tank top is new and Paul brought it with him from a delivery I got at home. If so, it is from Softosy. I have probably mentioned it but their selection is large, ridiculous, inexpensive, and always changing. Lanna is wearing a cute glow in the dark collar I made her. If you have not heard of our Sweetheart Society well, let me fill you in on this. Every month the staff at both stores select a sort of dog of the month that we call The Sweetheart Society. If your dog(s) is selected, I hand make the pups their own cute little collar. ❤️
